Funeral services for Geneva Littlejohn Melton, a resident of McAlester, formerly of Coalgate will be held Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Coalgate First Baptist Church with Pastor Haskell Melton II officiating. Burial will be in Redden Cemetery under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Mrs. Melton was born March 9, 1920 in Redden, OK to William Pickney and Theresa Pearl (Snow) Littlejohn and passed away October 17, 2011 in McAlester, OK at the age of 91. She attended Redden School and graduated from Stringtown High School and also attended college at Tishomingo for one year. On September 24, 1939 she married Haskell Melton in Stringtown, OK. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1958. Mrs. Melton worked at Wrangler Blue Jean Factory in Coalgate for ten years and was an Administrative Assistant for Pittsburg Public Schools for 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coalgate.
Survivors include her children, Minnie Scott and husband Don of Pittsburg, OK, Eloise Baskin and husband J. D. of Waco, TX, Pearl Grady and husband Doug of Durant, Haskell Melton and wife Marsha of Savannah, Mamie Hughes and husband Joel of Springfield , MO and Stephen Melton and wife Cathy of Augusta, KY; brothers, Bobby Littlejohn and wife Effie of Burkburnett, TX, Johnny Littlejohn and wife Barbara of Newcastle, OK and James Littlejohn and wife Nora of McAlester, OK; 19 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Jennylynn Pool and Jo Ann Caudill and grandson, Bobby Leroy Scott.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Baskin, Johnny Scott, Curtis Grady, Michael Grady, Joe Wills, Kyle Schwanke, Haskell Melton II, Billy Melton, and Danny Melton.
