Larry Dean Rose, Educator and Pastor, passed away September 22, 2019 at his home in Stringtown, OK at the age of 75.

Formerly of Elmore City, he resided in Stringtown at the time of his death.

Mr. Rose was born to William Allen and Lillian Clorene (Coppenbarger) Rose in Fairfield, CA, on Thursday, June 1, 1944 while his father was stationed at the Army Air Corp Base. Larry attended Satterwhite Elementary School.  He graduated from Elmore High School in 1962 and went to East Central University on a band scholarship, playing the tuba in the ECU Marching Band. He graduated from ECU with a Bachelor of Science. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree he began his teaching career, teaching at South Side High School, near Altus, for four years. Mr. Rose then taught at Sulphur High School for three years. After moving to Stringtown, he taught math and science in Atoka at the High School and Middle School for twenty-one years and retired in 1995. After retirement, he substituted at Atoka and Stringtown.  His pastoral ministry began as pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he served for seventeen years. His next pastorate was at Coalgate Missionary Baptist Church where he pastored for thirty years, making a total of forty-seven years serving as pastor. During his pastoral ministry, he officiated numerous weddings and funerals and led many to Christ and had the honor of baptizing many of them. On August, 7, 1972, he married Virginia (Jenny) Lynn Head at  Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Stringtown, OK. Larry enjoyed turkey and deer season with his sons, grandsons and brothers in law. Larry loved gardening.

Larry is survived by his wife, Virginia Lynn Rose, wife of forty-seven years, of the home in Stringtown, OK; sons, Jeremy Dean Rose of Sherman, TX, Jason Ray Rose and wife Christina of Huntsville, AR, Joshua Dale Rose and wife Cheryl of Van Alstyne, TX; grandchildren, Elijah Dean Rose of Huntsville, AR, Levi Bain Rose of Huntsville, AR, Eliana Mercedes Rose of Huntsville, AR; brother, Garry Allen and wife Patricia of Sand Springs, OK; sisters, Barbara Harney and husband Roger of Lookeba, OK, Carolyn Belair and husband Don of Elmore City, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, 2 great great nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, William Allen and Lillian Clorene (Coppenbarger) Rose; grandchild, Aubrey Lynn Rose; father and mother in law, Gordon and Maxine Head. ******************************************************************************
