Grace Helen (Ochoa) Whitmire of Durant, OK went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 26, 2016 at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 26 days. She was born on October 31, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA to William G. and Grace (Sanabia) Ochoa.
Grace married Doyle Whitmire, the love of life 44 years ago on March 11, 1972 in Los Angeles, CA. They moved right after to make Durant their home. She retired from the Financial Aid Office at Southeastern Oklahoma State University after 20 years. She went on to work as an ELL Teacher at Durant Middle School. Grace was the Sunday School Director at Abundant Life Temple and a Team Leader for Mexico Missions.
"Amazing Grace" was a ray of light. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She had a heart for people and her family. Her laughter was contagious and her love for the Lord was evident with every word she spoke. Her family was her passion and she poured everything she had into them. Grace, loved, cared for and served everyone she encountered. Her presence will be greatly missed.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, daughter in law Christal, sister Dottie, brother in law Richard, and her father and mother in law.
Grace is survived by Doyle Whitmire of Durant, son William Whitmire of Yukon, OK, son Chad Whitmire and wife Annie of Moore, OK, sister Gloria Peña of Riverside, CA, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Believers Church. Bishop Randall Drake will be officiating with interment at Center Hill Cemetery. Family Hour will be Monday, May 30, 2016 from 6-8:00 PM at Brown’s Funeral Service. Condolences can be sent to www.brownsfuneralservice.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, OK.
