Eunice Bessie (Lawson) Whitmire went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 12, 2009 after a long illness. She was born January 26, 1911 to Rev. L.L. and Catherine Elmira Lawson in Clay County, Texas. She was the last of her immediate Lawson family. He hobbies were crocheting, gardening, canning, quilting, sewing, providing her home made pies for church functions, but most of all she loved going to church and feeling the presence of the Lord. She was kind, gentle, soft-spoken, and lived most diligently for the Lord since she was 17 years old. Her faith and trust in God were evident by the way she taught her children to trust the Lord in all things. She attended the First Assembly of God Church, Durant.

She was married to William Ernest Whitmire on December 25, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest in 1983; three children; one son in-law; one daughter in-law; two grand children; her parents; two sisters; and one brother.

She is survived by her children, R.L. Whitmire and wife Arleeta of Coleman, Mary Simpson of Oklahoma City, James Whitmire of Crowley, Texas, Bobbie Phelps and husband Bill of Silo, Lois Finn and husband Jerry of Denton, Texas, Doyle Whitmire and wife Grace of Durant, and LaVerne Barnes and husband Lindsey of Bristow, Oklahoma; 28 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 21 great, great grandchildren; and many relatives and a host of wonderful friends.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you and appreciation to the area church pastors, church families, loving neighbors, the Hospice personnel and Dr. Vivek Khetphal for the help, love, prayers and excellent medical care provided to our Mother.

Funeral Services will be under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service, Durant on Monday, August 17th, 10:00 AM at the First Assembly of God Church, 303 North 49th Street in Durant, which is located next to Brown's Funeral Service.
