Samuel “Leo” Robbins
Samuel Leo, son of Mr. & Mrs. E. Robbins was born in Bushton, Rice County, Kansas on October 18, 1888, and at the age of six years moved with his parents to Jet, Oklahoma, where he has since made his home. After completing the common school education he attended the Friends Stella Academy then to Oklahoma City Business College. While attending the latter place he took sick last March with the dreaded disease diabetics, and had to give up his work and had to return home where he died on January 2, 1911.
He was converted in 1898, while attending Stella Academy. When he passed away he was fully trusting in his Savior. Leo’s ambition in life was for the higher things which were for the betterment of Mankind. He was a regular attendant at Sunday School where he will be greatly missed for he was always there when health would permit him to do so. He leaves beside father and mother, five sisters and seven brothers and a host of friends who knew him only to love and respect him, one sister preceded him to the Home beyond many years ago. Funeral services were held Saturday January 7 after a brief service at the home was continued at the Timberlake M.E. Church at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Brown of Jet. The text being “Job 23-10” He knoweth the way I have taken; when he hath tried me I shall come forth as good.” The choir was composed of classmates and they all wearing the white carnation and six of the class acted as pallbearers. The casket was white covered in the most beautiful of flowers presented by his relatives and friends. Internment was made in the Timberlake Cemetery.
Those present from a distance were: Brothers and sisters; Mr. and Mrs. Lew Buckles of Binger, Oklahoma, Mrs. Jane Handy, Mrs. Mollie Swartz (Swarner), and Mr. Levi Robbins of Coldwater, Kansas, uncles and aunts (of) Mr. Leo Robbins. also, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Buckles of Manchester, Oklahoma.
