ENID, Okla. — The funeral for Ila Ruth Crain, 84-year-old Enid resident, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Central Christian Church. The Rev. John McLemore will officiate. Burial will follow in Timberlake Cemetery, near Jet. Visitation with family is 5-7 p.m. today, April 8, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel.

Ila was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Cherokee, Okla., to John and Onie (Glasgow) Woods and passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Greenbrier Nursing Home after a long battle with heart problems.

She graduated from Helena High School in 1947.

She married Gene Crain on July 11, 1947. To this union four children were born, Cheryl Lynn, Donald Gene Jr., Timothy Wayne and Diana Ruth. She was a special mom, grandma and great-grandma. She never missed a birthday or a special occasion with her kids and grandkids.

In 1981, after losing Gene, she went to work for Cheryl in her store for nine years, later going to Dillard’s for 15 years. She was an awesome sales lady and loved her customers.

She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Sooner Sunday School Class. She enjoyed watching Tiger Woods golf, Thunder basketball, OU and OSU sports and any sporting event her grandkids were involved with.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents; brothers, Alvin, Junior and Vern Woods; granddaughter, Tracy Crain; brothers-in-law, Bill, Charlie and Jim Crain; and special friend, Vern Butler.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl and Roy Fore, Enid, Donnie Crain, Woodward, Tim and Deb Crain, Mt. Grove, Mo., and Diane and Butch Mason, Meno; grandchildren, Shannon Nichols, Shawn and Carmen Fore, Travis and Abbi Crain, Nathaniel and Tiffany Crain, Matt and Bridget Mason, Ashley and Scott Hardison, Katy and Andrew Nelson and Mark Mason; 18 great-grandchildren, Junior, Zoie, Tanner, Shelbi, Lyric, Sidney, Garrett, Allie, Elianna, Lily, Elizabeth, Maisyn, Evie, Preston, Carisma, Katharina, Macenzy and Makayla; sisters-in-law, Hilda and Betty Crain, Helena and Pat Crain, of Enid. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and special friends, Irene Green and Linda Bradford.

Memorials may be made to Feed the Kids through Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Donald Gene Crain, Sr., 55, who died at his home Thurs., Jan. 1, 1981, were at 2:30 p.m. Mon. in the Helena-Goltry High School Auditorium with the Rev. Beryl Melcher as the officiating minister.
Crain was buried in the Timbelake Cemetery, north of Helena, OK. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kenny Lanman Funeral Home of Helena. The body lay in state in the foyer of the school for one hour before service time but the casket remained closed afterward.
Crain was born Feb. 9, 1925, at Helena, to William Harold and Edna May Lawyer Crain. He was a lifelong resident of the area.
During World War II, he served with the U.S.Navy as a radarman first class aboard the USS President Adams.
Crain and Ila Woods were married July 11, 1947, in Helena. He was a farmer and carpenter. Crain was a member of the American Legion Post in Goltry, OK. He had served as a member of the Goltry School Board, then of the Helena-Goltry School Board for a total of 20 years.
In addition to his wife, Ila, of the home, Crain is survived by his mother, Mrs. Edna Crain of Helena, OK.; two daughters, Cheryl L. Fore of Enid, OK., and Diana Mason of Meno, OK.; two sons, Donald Gene Crain Jr., Woodward, OK. and Timothy Crain, El Paso, TX.; three brothers, Bill and Charles, both of Helena, OK., and Jim of Goltry, OK. and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, granddaughter, infant brother and sister.
Crain's family has suggested that those who wish make contributions in his memory to the First Congregational United Church of Christ at Goltry, OK. The funeral home will serve as custodian of the memorial fund.
