St. Michael's Cemetery


A Celebration of Life Service for Donald William McAfee, 83, Enid is 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Burial is at a later date, in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Goltry. Cremation and service are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Don was born March 5, 1933, in Lewistown, Mo. to Lawrence and Myrle Brace McAfee, and passed away at home Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016. He was raised in Lewistown, where he graduated from high school in 1951. He attended and graduated Kirksville College, now Truman University, in Kirksville, Mo. He joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 15, 1955, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 14, 1956.

Don taught school for 2 years. He married Jeannette Krueger on March 3, 1956, and had two sons, Brent and Kevin. He later married Wanda Pritchard Werner Dec. 24, 1975, and became a step-father to three sons, Tony, David, and Ernie. Wanda passed away Nov. 11, 2008.

Don spent his remaining years with Mary Shank, in a deeply committed and caring relationship sharing love, joy, and peace. He appreciated the visits from her two children, Eve and Ron.

Don worked as a labor negotiator in Iowa and surrounding states. After living in Oklahoma City, he moved to Enid in 1976. He worked for George E. Failing as the Director of Personnel, retiring after 26 years. During retirement, he drove for Mid America Wholesale part-time. He attended St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. He later joined First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the TNT Sunday school class.

Don and Wanda enjoyed traveling from coast to coast on the motorcycle. At an early age, he became enamored with guns of all kinds. His love of guns allowed him to make friends across the United States. Don was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Enid #501 Garfield.

Don is survived by his loving companion, Mary, of the home; son, Brent McAfee and wife, Diane; stepsons, Tony, David and Ernie Werner; Mary's children, Eve Reim and Ron Shank; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his son, Kevin; sister, Norma; and his parents.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, and Masonic Lodge, Enid, #501 Garfield, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
