Short Spring Cemetery



The funeral for Alice Buckles, 93, of Alva will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alva First Baptist Church. Dr. Greg Hook and Rev. Johnny Rex Buckles will officiate. Burial will be in Short Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel.

She was born April 16, 1912, near Ashley to J. C. and Fannie Romaine Buckles and died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Share Medical Center, Alva.

She attended grade school in Cherokee then attended Horace Mann High School, Alva and Northwestern Normal School, graduating in 1934.

She grew up in farming and ranching, raising polled Hereford cattle.

She taught school in Driftwood, Mutual, Prairie Hill, Amorita and Burlington.

She was active in Golden Circle Club, the Iris unit of Garden Club and National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended First Baptist Church, Alva.

Surviving are two nieces, and six nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made to Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation.
