Pleasant View Cemetery


The funeral for Calvin C. Rhodes, 80, of Jet, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church of Jet. The Rev. Bill Kleymann will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Jet. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

He was born Sept. 7, 1927, southeast of Hardesty to David R. and Grace Ware Dye Rhodes and died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, in Enid.

He attended Hardesty Public Schools. He joined the Navy and was discharged after one year. Later he joined the Army on Aug. 19, 1955, in Amarillo, Texas. He transferred to the Army Air Corps, which later changed to the Air Force. He served at Harlingen Air Force Base in Texas, Vance Air Force Base in Enid and Laredo Air Force Base in Texas. He was honorably discharged Dec. 2, 1959. He moved back to Guymon and served as chief of police for a few years before moving to Oregon to work for a munitions plant for a year.

He married Leona Ackley Iverson June 3, 1965, in Lewiston, Idaho. They moved to Wichita, Kan., and he worked for Beechcraft Airplane Co. He was an inspector for six years. In 1972, they moved to Hardesty and farmed. A year later, he was named to the Texas County Sheriff’s Department. He retired from law enforcement in 1985, while still farming. They moved to Jet in 1994. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts of Guymon and a life member of United Methodist Church of Hardesty.

Surviving are his wife, Leona, of Jet; four daughters, Linda Barefoot, Deann Pierce, Virginia Wood and Lyn Padilla; two stepdaughters, Ruby Iverson Kleymann of Ellsworth, Minn., and Mary Iverson Bruce of Trinidad, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, two stepdaughters, two sisters and one brother.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Jet Fire Department or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, lung cancer division.

TRINIDAD, CO — Leona Ackley Iverson Rhodes, of Jet, Okla., died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in Trinidad, Colo. She was born May 14, 1926, near Goltry, Okla., to Eddie M. and Cora (Strait) Ackley.

She graduated from Jet High School in 1944.

She married Norman D. Iverson June 14, 1944. They had four daughters. In 1965 she married Calvin Rhodes.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Joanna (Jo) Hueson and Leona Brooks, her husband, parents, four sisters and one brother.

She is survived by two daughters, the Rev. Ruby Kleymann (Rev. Bill), Logansport, Ind., and Mary Iverson, Trinidad, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Her service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, in Plainview Cemetery, Jet. Arrangements by Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home, Trinidad, Colo.
