Funeral service for Erma Hunter, 91, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at First Christian Church, Cleo Springs, Okla. The Revs. Roy Wahlgren and Connie Schlarb will officiate. Burial will follow at Aline Star Cemetery, Aline, Okla., under the direction of Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Erma (Rogers) Hunter was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Homestead, Okla., to Ira and Ethel Mae (Bessy) Rogers and passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Fairview Fellowship Home.

She attended Cleo Springs High School, graduating with the Class of 1941.

On Sept. 17, 1949, Erma and Vernon Hunter were united in marriage at her parents’ home in Cleo Springs. To this union was born one daughter, Sandra Sue.

Erma worked for the telephone company and for the Oklahoma Historical Society-Sod House until her retirement.

She and Vernon enjoyed many bus tours and traveled extensively for as long as their health allowed. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1999. She moved into the Fairview Fellowship Home in 2013.

She was an avid gardener and provided lovely bouquets for Sunday services at church. Erma loved to sew lap blankets for others. Some of the blankets were sent to Africa, which she was very proud of.

Erma was a very active member of First Christian Church in Cleo Springs. She also was active as a volunteer at Fairview Hospital, Aline-Cleo School and enjoyed the Cleo Senior Citizen Center. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Erma leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Sandra (Hunter) Whittenburg and husband Jackie of Cleo Springs, Okla.; two grandsons, Roger Whittenburg of Fairview, Okla., and Matthew Whittenburg of Enid, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Maxine and the late Gene Hunter of Muskogee, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Vernon.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cleo Springs First Christian Church or Fairview Fellowship Home.
