Floyd Dean DeWitt
May 25, 1930 - October 30, 2015

Cherokee-Graveside service for Dean DeWitt will be Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery with Rev. Mary Irby officiating.

We are here to celebrate the life of Dean DeWitt. Dean was the loving husband of Joy DeWitt for 60 years, the proud father of Mike and Mark, and the cherished grandfather of Ashlee, Cameron, and Taylor.

Dean's life began May 25, 1930 in Carmen, Oklahoma. He played football at Carmen High School and worked on the family farm. He felt a call to service and joined the Marines in the Recon division where he served overseas. He returned to the United States and moved to Wichita, Kansas where he met the love of his life Joy. He persuaded her to marry him in 1955 and they settled in Wichita where he saw the potential of land development in downtown and began his career as a developer. As his business grew so did his family, his sons, Mike and Mark were born in 1959 and 1961 respectively. The DeWitt's made south Wichita their home where they were very involved in the Boy Scouts of America. Dean was very proud to be an Eagle Scout, and prouder still that both his boys achieved that honor. Later, his grandson Cameron followed Dean's legacy and achieved the rank of Eagle. In the 1980s the DeWitt's moved their business and home to west Wichita because Dean knew it was a great opportunity and he was instrumental in the development of the western portion of the city.

The love Dean and Joy shared was unwavering for 60 years. Dean would do anything for Joy and delighted in surprising her. Dean was very proud of his son Mike for managing the development business and his son Mark for his success as an insurance broker and rancher. He loved his grandchildren Ashlee, Cameron, and Taylor and if you happened to sit by him at Town and Country Restaurant you listened to many stories about them.

Dean is survived by his wife, two sons and their wives Ronda and Jill, three grandchildren, and two siblings, Gene DeWitt and Carole Salter.

Memorials may be given to Boy Scouts of America at 3247 North Oliver Ave., Wichita, Kansas 67220.
