Pleasant View Cemetery


ENID - Funeral service for Joan Castle, 82, will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at United Methodist Church, Jet, with Rev. Mary Irby officiating. The time of service has been changed due to weather concerns. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Cherokee. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today with the family present from 4-6 p.m. and before the service at the church.

Joan was born April 16, 1927, in Cherokee to George Alvin Van Osdol and Sylvia Edna Stout Van Osdol and passed from this life on Tuesday, March 16, 2010.

She moved to Jet in 1938, where she graduated from Jet High School in 1945 and received her bachelor's degree from Oklahoma A&M in 1948.

She married L.E. Castle Aug. 20, 1949. They made their first home in Billings and then moved to Burlington, where they lived for 18 years before moving back to Jet in 1970.

Joan worked at the Jet and Burlington Co-op Grain Elevators and as the school secretary at both Jet-Nash and Burlington schools.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, Jet, United Methodist Women and Alfalfa County Farm Bureau Women.

Survivors include her husband, L.E. of Jet; four daughters, Christie Ballard and husband Keith of Claremore, Jean Tarrant and husband Doug of Houston, Texas, Janet Roper of Austin, Texas, and Kimberly Miller and husband Jeff of Claremore; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Potter and husband Dan, Matthew Ballard and wife Traci, Greg Tarrant and wife Paloma, Michelle Andrews, Michael Ballard and fiancé Fanny Estling, Julie Tarrant, Jeff Tarrant and wife Samantha, Jessica Roper, Marcus Roper and Tyler Miller; five great-grandchildren, Abi and Anna Potter, Ashton Andrews and Kizer and Keaton Ballard.

Her parents and sister, Carolie Tucker, preceded her in death.

Memorials may be given to United Methodist Church, Jet, through the funeral home.
