ENID — Funeral for Howard Kay Ent, 69, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at United Methodist Church, Aline, with interment following in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Scott Heusel will officiate. Arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Helena. Share online condolences at www.lanmanmemorials.com. Viewing will be 2-5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Howard was born Jan. 26, 1942, to Orval and Fern Ent in Watonga, Okla., and died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, after taking suddenly ill.

Howard moved with his parents from Watonga to Enid and finally to Cleo Springs in 1956, where he graduated high school. He then went on to complete Okmulgee Tech School, learning to repair typewriters. He repaired typewriters and minor medical instruments for several years before being lured into the oil fields, like many others at the time, as a roughneck. Howard eventually got on driving trucks for Groendyke Transport collecting and transporting crude oil and finally getting on as an over-the-road driver. Howard worked for Groendyke until he retired.

Howard married Brenda Brinson in 1975, acquiring an instant family including Scott, Steven and David Stewart. Howard’s dreams came true June 10, 1981, when Brenda gave birth to Lanette.

Howard enjoyed traveling, camping and watching NASCAR.

Howard was devastated by the loss of Brenda to nephritis in 1988. Howard spent much of his last years enjoying traveling and fishing with his brothers and watching his grandchildren grow.

Survived by children, Lanette and Scott Barnett of Enid and Scott and Vickie Stewart of Pond Creek; sisters, Virginia (Deed) Jones of Enid, Dixie Beckwith of Cleo Springs, Anna Galusha of Enid and Mildred (Millie) Rader of Freedom. brothers, Walter (Jack) Ent of Ringwood and Harold Ent of Carmen; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by wife Brenda; father, Orval; mother and stepfather, Fern Salladay Beckwith and John Beckwith; two sons, Steven and David Stewart; and one infant brother.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, kidney division, through the funeral home.
