THELIA KAY SEWELL SHAW
The funeral for Thelia Kay Sewell Shaw, 62, formerly of Burlington, OK., will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Norman, OK. The Rev. Tollie Bibb will officiate. Burial will be 4:30 p.m. at Keith Cemetery, southwest of Burlington, OK. Arrangements are by Havenbrook Funeral Home, Norman, OK. A reception will follow at Burlington Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 500 N. Broadway, Suite 250, Oklahoma City, OK. 73102.

NORMAN — Terry Joe Shaw, 66, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. He was born in Cherokee, Okla., on Jan. 20, 1947, to Harold and Edith Shaw.
He grew up on the family wheat farm and attended Burlington School, where he was valedictorian, was active in FFA and was named a National Star Farmer. Terry received his B.S. in biochemistry from Oklahoma State, where he was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity. He married Karen Taggart of Stillwater in 1969.
He then earned his master’s degree in molecular biology from UC San Diego while doing cancer research at the Salk Institute. Terry then taught middle school science in Arizona.
After his wife, Karen, was killed in an auto accident, he returned to Oklahoma State to earn his doctorate degree in science education.
In 1975, he married Thelia Sewell of Perry, and they had two children, Tarren John and Tana Elaine.
Terry loved teaching science and loved making a difference in the life of students. He taught at Stillwater Middle School, Kansas State and Oklahoma State, and at Irving Middle School in Norman.
Thelia preceded him in death.
Along with his teaching, Terry developed hands-on science curriculum for the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley. He continued to develop course curriculum and provide professional development for science educators until his death.
Terry received numerous awards for teaching including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, the National Environmental Education Teacher of the year, the Outstanding Middle School Science Teacher of the Year for Oklahoma, The Outstanding Instructor in the College of Education at OSU and in 2013, was inducted into the OSU College of Education Hall of Fame.
Terry was a member of Alameda Church of Christ in Norman.
Terry loved motorcycle camping, bicycling and was up for any adventure with his family and friends.
Terry was married to Skye Diers of Norman in 2006. Together, they have five children.
He is survived by his wife, Skye of Norman, and their children, Tarren Shaw of Norman; Tana (Chad) Cartwright and son Josiah of Dallas; Jake Dragoo, Oklahoma City; Ben Dragoo (fiancé Micah Watson), Norman; and Tucker (Elizabeth) Dragoo, Yukon; Terry’s two sisters, Gwen Shaw, Edmond; and Dixie (Greg) Thomas; niece Amanda (Ed) Blake, Richardson, Texas; and nephew, Tyler Thomas, Wichita.
Memorials may be made to the OSU Foundation or the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are being arranged by Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Family visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Alameda Church of Christ, with burial in Keith Cemetery, Southwest of Burlington at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28.
