Final rites for T/Sgt. Howard Nelson Wayman, 25, will be held Wednesday at 2 PM in the First Congregational church at Goltry. Rev. LeRoy McReynolds will be in charge. The Goltry American Legion No. 43 will have charge of a graveside service in the Goltry Cemetery.

Sgt. Wayman was killed in action on Leyte Province, Philippines Island on October 21, 1944, from shrapnel from a Japanese knee mortar. He was born near Goltry and graduated from Lambert high school in 1936. He was living in the Nash community at the time he entered the service.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Olena Wayman of Goltry; five brothers, Wesley of Cherokee, Claude of Vanceburg, Kentucky, Eldon, Billie and Jerry of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Slater of Weatherford, Mrs. Peggy Jantz of Cherokee and Ola Mae of the home.

The Voss funeral home in Goltry is caring for the body.
