Lahoma – The graveside service for Thelma Unruh, 80, will be 10 AM Tuesday at Karoma Cemetery in Goltry under direction of Anderson – Burris Funeral Home. A Memorial service will follow at 11 AM at New Hopedale Mennonite Church in Meno with the Rev. Larry Brashears officiating. She may be viewed after 6 PM today and the family will greet friends at the funeral home 7 to 8:30 PM Monday.

She was born December 27, 1918, to Harry and Malinda Buller Pekrul at Goltry and died Thursday, November 25, 1999, at her daughter's home in Newton, Kansas.

August 27, 1936, she married Walter Unruh in Goltry. They lived in several communities in the Enid area and then moved from Waukomis to Lahoma about 30 years ago. She worked in retail clothing in Enid for about 10 years. She was a member of Meno New Hopedale Mennonite Church.

She is survived by her husband, Walter of the Methodist Home in Enid; two daughters, Bonnie Fey of Junction City, Kansas, and Debbie Schmidt of Newton, Kansas; two brothers, Melvin Pekrul of Lockhart, Texas, and Hart Pekrul of Goltry; one sister, Betty Boutwell of Del City; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer or Alzheimer's Division.

Lahoma – A Memorial service for Walter Unruh, 86, will be 11 AM Tuesday in New Hopedale Mennonite Church at Meno. The Revs. Larry Brashear, Monty L. Fey and Debbie Schmidt will officiate. A graveside service will be 10 AM Tuesday in Karoma Cemetery at Goltry. Visitation will be 7 PM Monday at Ladusau – Evans Funeral Home Chapel, Enid.

He was born March 8, 1915, in Meno to Jacob and Rachel Jantz Unruh and died Thursday, February 21, 2002, at The Methodist Home of Enid.

He graduated from high school at Oklahoma Bible Academy and attended Phillips University, Bethel College and Northwestern University where he graduated. He earned a Master's of education degree from Phillips University. He married Thelma Pekrul of Goltry on August 27, 1936. He was a farmer and taught school in rural Major County, in Goltry, Lahoma and Hunter. He taught school, coached sports and was principal and superintendent of schools in Waukomis. He retired from Emerson Junior High School, Enid, where he worked as a counselor in 1982. He was a life – time member of New Hopedale Mennonite Church in Meno.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Fey and Debbie Schmidt, both of Newton, Kansas; six grandchildren; and nine great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and two brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Bethel College.
