Karoma Cemetery


The funeral for Ruth L. Unruh, 88, will be 2 PM Wednesday at Central Christian Church. The Rev.'s Gary McCormick and Kevin Arensman been will officiate. Burial will be in Karoma Cemetery, Goltry. Arrangements are by Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

She was born May 25, 1910, in McAlester to Robert and Minneola Ross Sawyers and died Friday, January 8, 1999, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

She graduated from McAlester High School. She was married to Garland Lasater of Pauls Valley. He died May 25, 1941.

On December 22, 1951, she married Fred Unruh. They lived in Enid. She was employed by Guarantee Abstract Company for a number of years and later was part – time employee of Max Minton Agency.

She was a member of Central Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, Lloyds of Central Poetry Club, Carrier I I Extension Club, West Side Garden Club, Sons and Daughters of the Cherokee Strip, Garfield County Historical Society and Young At Heart. She was past Pres. of Republican Women's Club.

She formally was active in Enid Chapter of Sweet Adelines, St. Mary's Auxiliary, Rotary Anns, Commissioner's Wives Association and Banner Club.

Surviving are her husband, Fred; and one brother, Carl Sawyer of Torrington, Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by one son and five sisters.

The funeral for Fred Unruh, 88, will be 10 AM Thursday in the Chapel of Central Christian Church. The Rev. Kevin Arensman will officiate. Burial will be in Koroma Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

He was born May 1, 1913, near Minco, to Henry D. and Elizabeth Jantz Unruh and died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at Golden Oaks Nursing Home.

The family moved near Lahoma in January 1918. He attended grade school at Pleasant View and graduated from Enid High School. He and his brothers farmed and sang as a trio on a local radio station for several years. He had worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, before joining the Army Air Force. He was discharged in 1946, then returned to farming. He married Ruth Sawyer on December 22, 1951. He was a Garfield County Commissioner from 1969 to 1975, and was a member of Central Christian Church, Barber Shop Quartet, Northwest Field Club, Rotary and Enid Art Association.

Surviving are four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999 and six brothers.
