Anna Janzen Pjesky went home to the Lord on Jan. 21, 2015. She was born in Medford, Okla., to Cornelius and Anna Reimer Janzen on Feb. 19, 1920. She was the next-to-the-youngest of eight children, and grew up in Medford.
She met Alvin Pjesky and they were married on April 7, 1940, and moved to a farm east of Goltry, Okla.
She was active in the Community Bible Church, where she served as the church pianist and Sunday school teacher. She wrote a community news column for the Cherokee newspaper and served on the local election board.
Anna also was on the Goltry Karoma Cemetery Board and organized the annual Memorial Day program, often inviting the Vance Air Force Base Honor Guard to participate.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, in 1997; two sisters, Martha and Bertha; four brothers, Reuben, Jake, Paul and Edward.
She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Areffi and husband, Pat of Redlands, Calif.; son, Roger Pjesky and wife, Rita of Goltry, Okla.; daughter, Kay Henderson and husband, Max of Enid, Okla.; six grandchildren, Anne Surdzial and husband, Chris, Andrew Areffi and wife, Melissa, Ryan Pjesky and wife, Hope, Rex Pjesky and wife, Meredith, Amy Bollinger and husband, Neil and Jake Henderson; nine great-grandchildren, Jillian and Jenna Surdzial, Kennedy, Alex and Isabella Areffi, Haley and Dane Bollinger, Marshall and Miranda Pjesky; one sister, Wilma Eddings and husband, Arnold of Bloomington, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Laura Jantz and husband, Clayton of Meno, Okla., Lillie Reimer of California and Vernona Janzen of California; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 24, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at the Community Bible Church in Goltry with burial in Karoma Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Helena.
Memorials may be made to Goltry Fire Department or charity of choice through the funeral home. www.lanman memorials.com.
