January 23, 1946 - April 9, 2023

Betty Lou Teters Powers was born January 23, 1946 to Leroy Teters and Merle Elizabeth Brown Teters in Stroud and passed from this life on April 9, 2023 in Goltry. During her lifetime, Betty touched many lives with her love, kind words, and open arms. Her door was always open to those in need. On July 4, 1964, Betty joined the U.S. Army, along with eight other women. They were inducted in Oklahoma City. The nine women were called the "Sooner Platoon." Betty served almost three years. Her military operation status (M.O.S.) was clerk typing. Betty married Jim Gotthardt July 2, 1966. Betty was discharged from the U.S. Army in 1967 due to the pregnancy of their daughter. On April 26, 1967 Betty gave birth to their daughter, Belinda.

Betty married Jim Powers on November 7, 1986 in Enid. With this union, Betty gained two step-sons, Monte and Matthew Powers and a step-daughter, Laura Powers Lormand.

All through her lifetime, Betty loved to help people. She worked as a waitress, a nurse's aide at Kingfisher and Fairview Hospitals, Battered Women and Enid Boys' Group Home - Office of Juvenile Affairs.

Betty is survived by her step-daughter, Laura Powers Lormand of Goltry; grandchildren, Thomas Boston of Wichita, Kansas, Sarah Boston of Wichita, Kansas, Becca Boston of Wichita, Kansas, Sage Powers of Goltry, Colten Lormand of Goltry, Christopher Powers of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Catherine Powers of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Jordan Powers of Norman; great grandchildren, Liam, Violet of Wichita, Kansas, Skyler Campbell of Whiteman Airforce Base Missouri, Cassidy Powers of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Coleton Powers of Cheyenne, Wyoming; brothers, Lloyd Teters of Stroud and Roy Teters of Chandler; sisters, Frances of Stroud and Darla of Smith Point, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Merle Teters; a brother, Robert; sister, Florence; daughter, Belinda; two step-sons, Monte and Matthew Powers, and the love of her life, her husband, Jim Powers.

Betty will be greatly missed.

Funeral service for Betty will be Friday, April 14, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Helena First Baptist Church. The burial is at Karoma Cemetery near Goltry with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena. Viewing will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
