Memorial services will be Friday, September 30, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Chapel with grandson, Bert Carnes officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Avard, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be made at http://www.whartonfuneralchapel.com.

Vernon Alton, son of Nora Belle (Mayo) and Norbert Elloy Logsdon was born on February 28, 1934 in Clayton, New Mexico. He passed away peacefully at his home in Carmen, Oklahoma, on September 18, 2022, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Vernon attended school in New Mexico and graduated from Los Lunas High School in New Mexico.

After graduation Vernon joined the Marines, and then went on to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was a firefighter.

In the late '70s Vernon moved to Alva, Oklahoma, and started working for the City of Alva Street and Water Deptartment where he worked for 20 years.

Vernon was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America for all of his life. He was a Scout Master and a District Commissioner.

Through Vernon's life he had 4 loves, Ethel, Nancy, Ruth and Dollie. With these loves he had Debra Carnes, Lynn Logsdon, Brian Logsdon and Carroll Cooksey.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Nora Belle and Norbert Elloy, his brothers Kenneth and Roy, a sister Agness, his three wives, Ethel, Ruth and Dollie and a son Lynn Elloy.

Vernon is survived by his daughter, Debra Carnes of Missouri, a son, Brian of New Mexico, a brother, Leo of California, and a sister Ellen Collins of Pennsylvania, a number of nieces, nephews and grands, not to mention other relatives and friends.

Contributions may be made in Vernon's honor to Wharton Funeral Chapel.
