Helena, OK. -- The funeral for Irene Stagner, 91, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at Helena Christian Church. The Rev. Bob Paine and Dr. John Rusco will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home. The casket will be open at the funeral home from 2:30-7p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday. It will be open before service Tuesday at the church.
She was born April 22, 1909, in Kingman, KS., to John Jay and Amanda Morris Griswold and died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Integris Bass Medical Center, Enid, OK.
Irene moved to Helena with her parents in November of 1918 and attended school in Helena. In 1922 she moved to Stillwater, OK. where she graduated from Stillwater High School in 1927. On May 21, 1927 she married Warren Stagner in Pawnee, OK. They had been married 61 years at the time of his death in 1988.
The Stagner's lived in Stillwater, OK., Oklahoma City, OK., Wichita, KS. and McPherson, KS. before making their home in Tulsa, OK. where Mr. Stagner worked for MK&O Bus Lines for 40 years. Irene was a member and elder of the Tulsa Second Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Tulsa Garden Club for many years. After Mr. Stagner's retirement in 1977, they moved to Helena.
Irene was an active member of the Helena Christian Church and was also active in the Helena Senior Citizens Center where she spent many afternoons quilting. She was elected to the Alfalfa County Hall of Fame in 1995 and received many awards for her volunteer work.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including: Beverly Couch of Oklahoma City, OK., Pamela Hightower of Miami, OK., Kyle Couch, Cheryl Couch and Rhonda Couch Turner, all of Mulvane, KS., Rev. Glen Bays of Warren, IL., Carolyn Hubble and Dr. John Rusco of Oklahoma City, OK.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, her sister, Hazel Couch, two nephews, Leland Couch and Lyle Couch and one niece, Maxine Bays.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church's building fund.

Helena, OK. -- The funeral for Warren C. Stagner, 84, who died Sept. 28, 1988, in an Enid hospital, was at 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 1, 1988 in First Christian Church, Helena, with the Rev. Daniel A. Sanford officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery directed by Kenny Lanman Funeral Home, Helena.
Born April 1, 1904 in Marena, he graduated from Stillwater (OK.) High School. On May 21, 1927, he married Irene Griswold in Pawnee, OK. He was an MK&O Bus Lines employee for 42 years, before retiring. He was a member of First Christian Church. He and his wife planned activities at the Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors are his wife; a sister, Ruby Tarleton of Napa, CA. Two sisters preceded him in death.
