Lynn Dean Shepard Sr., 65, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, after battling cancer, with his loved ones by his side. Lynn was born Oct. 21, 1948, the firstborn son of Lowell Shepard and Carole Cronin Shepard in Enid. Lynn graduated from Helena High School in 1966, participating in football and FFA. He was the chapter Star Farmer under Ag instruction of Homer Evans and played football under Coach Ray Troutt. He then attended Oklahoma State University. He later began his lifelong career in Non-Destructive Testing in Washington, Pa., in 1971. He moved his business and family to South Florida in 1980, where the business continues to thrive today. Over his 43 years as a successful business leader, he has employed hundreds of people worldwide.
His other life passions included traveling the United States collecting antiques and John Deere Tractors, wheat and cattle farming in Oklahoma and sport fishing the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of South Florida.
Lynn is survived by his mother, Carole Cronin Shepard of Helena; Donna, his wife of 27 years of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; his children, Jason D. Shepard and wife Telena and family of Walhalla, S.C., Leisa Shepard of Thurmond, N.C., Lynn Shepard Jr. of Central Florida, Jordan Shepard of Boca Raton, Fla., and Alex Shepard of Oakland, Calif.; his grandchildren, Tyler Shepard of Asheville, N.C., and Cassia Shepard of Boca Raton, Fla.; brother, David Shepard and wife Linda; sisters, Virginia Powell and husband Vernon and Debbie Slovacek and husband Vernon, both of Helena, and Diana Gray, Drummond, and late husband Melvin Gray; and many nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded Lynn in death include his father, Lowell Oliver Shepard, and his grandparents, Virgil Shepard and Goldie Hawkins Shepard and Jess Cronin and Ruby Clark Cronin.
Celebration service for Lynn will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Helena. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena.
