Enid - Funeral service for Jack Walton Rhodes, 84, was Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel, Helena, with the Rev. Steven Meier officiating. He died April 24, 2007, at his home in Enid. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery, Helena. Military Honors at the cemetery were provided by the Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard of Oklahoma City, OK.
He was born March 8, 1923 in Enville, Love County, OK. to Troy E. Rhodes and Katie Bell Willis Rhodes. His early years were spent in Maude, OK. Jack graduated from high school in Gainesville, TX. and from a welding school in Shawnee, OK. After welding school, Jack served from 1943 until 1945 in the U.S. Army in England. On January 19, 1957 he married Sylva Carter Kowalski in Enid. They lived in Mesquite, TX. for nineteen years and had lived in Helena approximately twenty-three years. Jack and Sylva had lived in Enid since 2000. Jack retired in 1985 from Crabtree Correctional Facility in Helena. He was a member of Helena Christian Church serving as an elder on the church board. Jack was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Sylva of Enid; one son, Jimmy L. Kowalski and wife, Kathy of Salem, Massachusetts; one sister, Wanda Cupp and husband, John of Houston, TX.; four grandchildren, Kristine Kowalski, of Beverly, MA., Kathleen and husband, Michael of Dover, N.H., Kerrianne Tsimounis and husband Vasli of Salem, MA., Jonathan Kowalski, of Salem, MA.; ten great grandchildren, David and Zachary Farrar, Cameron Duchesne, Sarah, Michael, Hannah, Jonathan and Ella Wasserman, Jessica Kowalski and Christopher Tsimounis; several nieces and nephews.
Those that preceded Jack in death include his parents; one sister, Margaret Morale; four brothers, Edmond, Alvin, S.F. and Troy Gene.
Memorials may be made to Ross Hospice, Enid, through the funeral home.
