Helena, OK. -- Services for Ward Powers, 72, who died Thursday night in an Enid, OK. hospital, were at 10:30 a.m., Monday, in the Helena First Christian Church with the Rev. Daniel A. Sanford officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery directed by Kenny Lanman Funeral Home, Helena.
He was born Oct. 7, 1915, to Jesse and Dottie Powers in Toledo, OH. At the age of 5 he came to Helena and made his home with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Fish. He graduated from Helena High School in 1933 and was engaged in farming and ranching.
On July 15, 1939, he married Thelma LeCrone. He served in World War II with the 555th Ordinance Company. He returned to Helena in 1945 where he farmed until he retired this year.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Helena Masonic Lodge No. 298, AF&AM, 32nd degree Guthrie Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Helena Order of Eastern Star No. 154 and American Legion Gano Post No. 28.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, a sister and a grandson.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Joyce Logan of Piedmont, OK.; a son, Marty of Guthrie, OK.; a sister, Della Oberwegner of Toledo, OH. and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Helena Christian Church, Helena Masonic Lodge or Oklahoma Medical Research, cancer of lung division, with the funeral home in charge of funds.

Funeral service for Thelma Lucille Powers age 92 of Enid formerly of Helena will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Central Christian Church Chapel with Rev.’s John McLemore and Don Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery, Helena, OK. Arrangements are under the kind direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Thelma was born July 31, 1917 in Helena, OK to Goss and Eunice Davis LeCrone and passed away early Saturday morning in St. Mary’s Hospital. She attended school in Helena and graduated from High School in Wichita, KS. On July 15, 1939 she married Ward Martin Powers and he passed away in August 1988.

Thelma worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Coop in Helena retiring after 21 years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Helena and attended the Central Christian Church.

She was active in Eastern Star and enjoyed sports and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughter Joyce Logan of Piedmont, son Marty and his wife Shalia of Wynnewood, grandchildren Tara and Chad Greb of Helena, Amy Logan of Oklahoma City, Shay and Tracy Powers of Lawton, Andy and Allison Logan of Piedmont, and Lance and Megan Powers of Pauls Valley, 5 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 6 step great grandchildren, and the Boyd Turner family of Muncie, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Vern LeCrone, and infant grandson Shawn Powers.

Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church-Care Givers or Timberlake School-Athletic Dept. with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the fund.
