Bob Meyer was born November 6, 1939, to Pete and Lillian (Hurt) Meyer in Longdale, Oklahoma. After a courageous battle fighting many ailments, Bob went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2018 at the age of 78.
Bob graduated from Canton Public Schools and went on to graduate from Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He taught science for ten years. He married Mary Cathren Murray on August 2, 1964, at Helena Christian Church. To this union three children were born: Tony, Mitchell and Sherri. They made their home in Helena where Bob worked for the Town of Helena for 30 years, retiring November 2003. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hunting, fishing, trips with his friends to casinos, and playing with his many cats. He also enjoyed picking sand plums and pecans. Bob was an active member of the Helena Lions Club, an Assistant Scout Master and a Volunteer Firefighter for the Helena Fire Department. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; sister, Pat Bumpers; brother, Jack Meyer; nephew, Mike Powell and infant son, Mitchell.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cathy of Helena; son, Tony Meyer and wife, Mechelle of Tulsa; daughter, Sherri Hoover and husband, Clay of Yukon; sister, Dixie Ritz of Yukon; grandson, Steven Meyer of Tulsa; granddaughter, Melanie Schluns and husband, Chad of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and great-grandchildren, Liliana and Zayne Schluns.
The Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Helena Christian Church with Pastor Jay Drawbridge officiating.
Graveside services follow at Good Hope Cemetery, under the direction of Lanman Funeral Home, Inc.
Viewing is 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018, with the family present 4-6:00 p.m. Condolences www.LanmanMemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
Memorials may be made to the Helena Lions Club or Alfalfa County EMT Association, through the funeral home.
