James G. "Jim" Helterbrake, Sr.
The funeral services for James 'Jim' G. Helterbrake 'Hildy' Sr., 89 year old Enid resident, will be 2 p.m. today Jan. 19, 2008, in Oakwood Christian Church. Dr. Joe Wilson will officiate. Bryan Bishop and Len Coulter will assist. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery near Helena under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.
James was born June 6, 1918, in Curtis, Ohio, to Orma Helterbrake and Lena Kutcher Helterbrake and died Thursday, Jan 17, 2008 in St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He attended Catholic School in Oregon, Ohio, and graduated from high school in Gibsonburg, Ohio, in 1936. His father died when James was young and he began working as a truck driver and a baker. He was drafted into the U. S. Army at the outbreak of World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater.. He was married at Ft. Sill to Jeneva Horner in 1942. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in 1945.
James returned to Ohio where he was a carpenter. He moved to Chester, Ok. where he farmed and worked for Major County. In 1965, he was the nursing home administrator for Helena. On July 30, 1971 he married Winnie Krob at the First Christian Church ;in Helena. He worked for C. R. Anthony for 17 years, managing stores n Oklahoma and one in Wisconsin. He retired as assistant manager in Enid. He loved to fish, boat and camp. He was also an excellent carpenter and handyman.
He is survived by his wife, Winnie, of the home; four daughters, Helen Hickman and husband Henry of Vici, Ok, Connie Price and husband Joe of Chester, Ok, Myna Pendleton and husband Dr. Bruce, of Enid, and Paula Helterbrake of Chester; two sons, Jim and wife Valerie Helterbrake Jr. of Enid, and Jeff and wife Ann Helterbrake of Chester; three stepchildren, Len Coulter and wife Vicki of Aline, Ok, Loretta Coulter of Enid, and Myron Coulter and wife Debra of Aline; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcelle Hille and Blanche Schimming of Genoa, Ohio; one brother, Harv and wife Kathy, of Toledo, Ohio; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Opal; and brother, Jack.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice with Henninger-Allen Funeral Home acting as custodians of the fund.
