Ethel Lee Heffron was born August 28, 1918, on the family farm southwest of Hunter, Oklahoma, and she died November 25, 2007, in El Reno, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Bertha Travis of Hunter, Oklahoma; her husband, Albert Heffron of Helena, Oklahoma; as well as her brothers, Quentin Travis of Grant’s Pass, Oregon, and Claude Travis of Del City, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her son, John L. Heffron of Enid, Oklahoma; her brother, James Travis of Winfield, Kansas; and many nephews and nieces.
Ethel professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Hunter, Oklahoma. Ethel later graduated from the Hunter High School.
Ethel and Albert J. Heffron were married shortly before Albert began serving overseas during World War II. Ethel lived with her parents, was a telephone switchboard operator in Hunter, and served as a Red Cross nurse during the war.
After the war Albert and Ethel began farming and ranching on a farm near Dexter, Kansas. They survived a devastating tornado, which destroyed their house, farm buildings, and numerous livestock.
Later they moved to Helena, Oklahoma, where they resided for many years and were active in the Helena Baptist Church. Mrs. Heffron continued to live in Helena for years after her husband’s death. She enjoyed fellowship with her church and making quilts and crafts in the Senior Center in Helena.
In 2000, she moved to Del City, Oklahoma, in order to live close to her brother and other family members.
Services for Mrs. Heffron will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2007, at Candlewood Chapel in Midwest City, under the direction of Ford Funeral Service. Interment will take place later that afternoon at 3 p.m. at Good Hope Cemetery, in Helena, OK.
