Helena – The funeral for Anna Catherine Astley, 93, will be at 2:30 PM Sunday at the Helena United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mike Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery under the direction of Kenny Lanman Funeral Home.
The casket will be open at the funeral home from 9 AM to 9 PM today and from 9 to 11 AM Sunday as well as at the church before the service.
She was born April 5, 1899, near Ringwood to Mike and Priscilla Dillar Frickel and died Thursday, January 14, 1993, at Enid Living Center. She attended high school at Connell State Agriculture School in Helena and then Northwestern State College at Alva. She taught school for four years.
On May 2, 1922, she married George Edward Astley at her home near Ringwood. They moved to his mother's homestead, 3 miles southeast of Helena where they farmed until 1954. They then moved to Helena. She was an active member of the Methodist Church, WSCS and WCTU. She became a member of Carwile Methodist Church at an early age, transferring her membership to Helena United Methodist Church. In June 1986, she left Helena and lived with each of her children.
Surviving are four daughters, Dorothy June Van Scyoc of Enid, Georgia Ann Beasley of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, Mary Catherine Green of Pond Creek and Shirley Jean Barnard of Enid; two sons, Arthur Donald of Vidor, Texas, and Glenn Edward of Enid; two sisters, Irma Fullingim of Bartlesville and Myrtle Ensminger of Seattle, Washington; 21 grandchildren; and 37 great – grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, three sisters and one grandchild.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church.
