Anne Llewellyn Askew
Helena, OK. -- The funeral for Anne Llewellyn Askew, 87, will be 2 p.m. Saturday June 16, 2001 in Helena Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Dean Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home.
She was born September 15, 1913 in Conway, Arkansas to Flora Hollis Gresham and Luther Pinckney Llewellyn, and died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Fairview, OK. Hospital.
She graduated from Conway High School and earned a teaching certificate from Arkansas State Teachers College. She then taught in rural schools in Central Arkansas. On May 6, 1933, she married Kent Askew of Valley Springs, Arkansas. To this union, were born three daughters, Jeanne, Lou, and Kay and one son, Llewellyn Kent.
In 1936 Anne & Kent moved to Harlingen, TX. where they were charter members of First Church of the Nazarene which was organized in her parents home. In 1944 they moved to Helena where Kent was the Rural Letter Carrier for 37 years. Anne served in many capacities in the church as a Sunday School teacher, board member, song leader and Missionary President. She was a singer, and sang many specials in church services. She also sang with the Sweet Adeline's, Singspirations and other groups for community activities and funerals.
Anne was elected and served in several offices of the Women's Auxiliary of the Rural Letter Carriers Association and The Gideons International. Anne was a homemaker, dressmaker, artist and crafts person. She was an avid letter writer, with beautiful handwriting and explicit descriptions of God's creation. She loved working in her yard and working with her husband in his businesses; she was his assistant, secretary and dispatcher. After their retirement, they enjoyed extensive travels throughout the Continental U.S., Alaska and Canada. Anne will be missed by her family and friends but they will rejoice knowing that she goes to be with her Lord.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Jeanne and C.A. Crissup of Helena, OK., Dr. Lou and Louis Dennard of Bethany, OK., Kay and Ervin Norton of Carmen, OK. and Llewellyn Kent and Vicki Askew of Austin, TX.; fifteen grand-children, Jeannette and Lee Redman of Goltry, OK., Joyce and Merrill Thomas of Derby, KS., Jeff and Debbie Crissup of Helena, OK., Alan and Carman Dennard of Rockwall, TX., Mike and Rene Dennard of Mustang, OK., Lynne and Glen Simpson of Edmond, OK., Robyn and Jack Butler of Del Valle, TX., Kari and Trey Monk of Del Valle, TX., Jason Askew of Canyon Lake, TX., Scott Askew of Austin, TX., Lori and Drew Johnson of Del Valle, TX., Mark and Joanna Norton of Elk City, OK., Marty and Regina Norton of Perry, OK., Marick and Angela Norton of Alva, OK., and Jeannessa Norton of Carmen, OK.; thirty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kent, of 60 years, one sister and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Helena Church of the Nazarene or to Gideons International through Lanman Funeral Home of Helena, OK.

HELENA - The funeral for Kent Askew, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Helena Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Dean Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, near Helena, under direction of Kenny Lanman Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 15, 1913, at Valley Springs, Ark., to Bert Enos and Myrtle Belle Cooper Askew and died Monday, April 19, 1993, at the Helena Care Center.
He had lived in Valley Springs until he graduated from high school, then lived in Conway, Ark., where he attended Arkansas State Teachers College. On May 6, 1933, he married Anne Llewellyn at Hot Springs, Ark. They lived in Raymondville, Texas, until 1944 when they moved to Helena. He was a rual letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He also performed numerous other avocations, and was a member of the Helena Church of the Nazarene. He belong to the Gideons, the National Rural Letter Carriet Association, the Lions Club and the Boy Scouts of American.
Surivivng are his wife; one son, Llewellyn Kent Askew of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Jeanne Crissup of Helena, Lou Dennard of Bethany and Kay NOrton of Carmen; one brother, Ward B. Askew of Harrison, Ark.; one sister, Johnnie Gale Maxwell of Colville, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church or Gideons International.
