Dean Chaffin of Mojave, California, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully, on the morning of June 15, 2023, at age 91.

He was born April 25, 1932, near Dacoma, Oklahoma. He attended Midvalley Schools in rural Woods County with his siblings. He graduated from Dacoma High School in 1950, and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University (College), graduating in 1954.

He married Lola Coulter in December 1957.

Dean moved to Mojave with his family in 1964. There, he became a math teacher at Mojave High School where he coached basketball and golf until his retirement in 1989. He was also a founding member of the Mojave Foursquare Church and continued to be a member until his passing.

Dean is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lola, his two children, James (Diana) Chaffin and Janice (Alan) Ketchell, and his four granddaughters Rachel (Gary) Nichols, Amanda (Davy) Johnson, Sarah (Duane) Achziger, and Pamela (Matthew) Gentilcore. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Shankle, Geraldine (Paul) Yochum, Dorothy (Gary) Gilliam, Lynda Cook, and Louis (Cindy) Chaffin. Additionally, Dean is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great grand nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Chaffin and Anna (Bergner) Chaffin, and his brothers, Charles, Clyde, Carl Leonard, and Harry.

Graveside service will be held at Garrison Cemetery in Dacoma on October 14, 2023, at 11 a.m.
