Funeral service for Iona Cynthia "Onie" Delano will be 10 a.m. today at Carmen Christian Church with Rev. Kirk Board officiating. Interment will be in Eagle Chief Cemetery under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary, LLC, Carmen.
Iona Cynthia "Onie" Delano, daughter of Daniel Boone and Bengia Elizabeth (Garvin) Potts, was born Aug. 20, 1916, southwest of Carmen, in Alfalfa County, Okla., and passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, in Enid, Okla., at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 3 days.
Onie graduated from Carmen High School with the class of 1934.
On May 29, 1938, she was united in marriage to Lyle Dammond Delano in Aline, Okla. They lived in Carmen, where they owned and operated a café. She later worked in the printing office and was a medical aide at the Carmen Home.
She was a member of Carmen Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, and an infant daughter.
Onie is survived by two sons, Dennis Delano and wife Joyce of Arcadia and Bill Delano and wife Linda of Carmen; one stepdaughter, Glenda Hazelton of Surprise, Ariz.; one sister, Janeauita Ging of Waynoka; six grandchildren, Leslie Hazelton of Haltom City, Texas, Sheri Hazelton of Irving, Texas, Amber Douglas and husband Tim of Broken Arrow, Trent Delano and wife Janna of Aline, Craig Delano and wife Christy of Oklahoma City and Nichole Delano of Arcadia; four great-grandchildren, Alexis and Avery Douglas and Payton and Titus Delano; other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Carmen First Responders.
