The funeral for Shirley Marie Unruh, 59, was at 2:30 PM Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Walters officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery, directed by Goodwin Funeral Home. She died June 10, 1993, at Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City.
She was born June 25, 1934, in Woodward to Joseph and Opal Boyle. She graduated from high school in California and married Melvin Unruh on October 2, 1955, in Burlington. The Unruhs lived in Alva and Enid before moving to Cherokee in 1968. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was past worthy matron of Cherokee Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.

CHEROKEE — Funeral service for Melvin, 84, will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at Cherokee First Baptist Church, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, July 16, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. (www.lanmanmemorials.com)
Melvin was born June 12, 1931, in Carnegie to Albert Unruh and Bertha Froese Unruh and passed from this life on Sunday, July 12, 2015, in Oklahoma City.
He grew up in Hillsdale and served in the United States Navy.
He had lived in Alva, Enid and Cherokee. He was a member of Cherokee First Baptist Church and of the Masonic Lodge, serving as treasurer.
Melvin enjoyed woodworking and fishing and had previously owned and operated a grocery store.
Those who preceded Melvin in death include his parents; wife, Shirley Unruh; and sister, LaVera Buller.
Survivors include his children, Dennis Unruh and wife Bonnie and Belinda Michael and husband Paul, all of Cherokee; grandchildren, Kendra Anthony and husband Brandon of Germany, Shelby Michael of Cherokee, Jacob Unruh and wife Ashley of Oklahoma City, and Rachel Unruh of Cherokee; one great-grandchild, Montana Ledford; one brother, Donald Unruh and wife Linda of Virginia; and one sister, LaVerna Unruh of Texas.
Memorials may be given to OMRF, Kidney division through the funeral home.
