CHEROKEE — Funeral service for Martha Joy Stout, 80, will be 10 a.m. today, Oct. 8, 2011, at Friends Church in Cherokee with Pastor Joe Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee. Viewing 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today with the family present from 1-3 p.m. Memories may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com.
Martha Joy Stout was born March 21, 1931, to Willard and Esther Simmons Coppock at the Masonic Hospital in Cherokee.
She attended Ingersoll School during her grade school years and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1949. She entered nursing school with Martha Coppock at Wesley School of Nursing in Oklahoma City in 1949, graduating in 1951 as a registered nurse.
Martha worked at Cherokee Hospital as a county health nurse, at the Alva Hospital with Dr. Rodriquez in Cherokee, and Kiowa, Kansas, as a clinical nurse and finished her career working at Kiowa Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a lifetime member of Cherokee Society of Friends, recording clerk of the church, longtime pianist, member of Cherokee Chapter and Alva Chapter Order of Eastern Star for 65 years.
She married Loyd Stout Dec. 29, 1955, in Oklahoma City. They have been married for 55 years.
Martha is survived by her loving husband; three children, Mickey Stout and wife Amanda and their children, Morgan and Logan Stout, all of Minneola, Kansas, Paula Stout and husband Steve Crandall and their children, Clayton, Quintin, and Cameron Crandall, all of Sterling, Kansas, and Gayle Stout of Oklahoma City; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Coppock and Martha Coppock, both of Cherokee; and aunt, Marie Simmons of Concord, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Esther Coppock; two brothers, Delmar and Bruce Coppock; nephew, Bruce "Skipper" Coppock; niece, Pam Coppock; and great-nieces, Andrea and Sara Coppock.
Memorials may be given to the Friends Church or Eastern Star through the funeral home.
