Betty Jane Stone
January 3, 1948 - November 13, 2024

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Betty Jane Stone, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on November 13, 2024, at the age of 76.

Betty was born on January 3, 1948, in Enid. Oklahoma, to Jay and Doris Stone. She attended school in Enid and graduated from Enid High School. Over the years, she lived in Enid and Okeene before settling in Cherokee, Oklahoma.

Betty was the co-owner of the Okeene Meat Processing Plant before working for Waldon in Fairview. Later, she dedicated herself to a rewarding career with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, starting as a Cadet at James Crabtree Correctional Center on August 19, 1985, and retiring as a Sergeant on August 31, 2005. Betty formed many lasting friendships during her years of service, cherishing those connections deeply.

A true bargain hunter, Betty had a passion for garage sales, often exploring them with her sister, Doris. Auctions were another favorite pastime, and she took pride in sharing stories of her treasured finds. Among her prized collections were quilts lovingly sewn by her mother. She could often be found searching for gems at the Cherokee Thrift Store and enjoyed decorating her home with her beloved collections.

Betty was known for her warmth, patience, and dedication to her family. She adored her grandchildren, who were the stars of her life. She spent countless hours capturing their moments at events like sailing events, school plays, basketball games, and rodeos.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Doris Stone, and her grandson, Tyler Highfill.

She is survived by her two daughters: Lisa Ackerman and husband, Brett and Tricia Angle and husband, Mark; her grandchildren, Sarah Summers, Jessica Palmer and husband, Issac, Toby Highfill, and Kayla Highfill; her great-granddaughter, Brileigh; her sister, Doris Posey; and her brothers, Jay Stone and Larry Stone.

A small gathering of family and friends to celebrate Betty's life will be Saturday November 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. www.lanmanfuneralhome.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home In.
