Cherokee Municipal Cemetery


CHEROKEE - Funeral service for Ortha Delton Ream, 90, of Cherokee, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, at Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Paul Calkin will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Goodwin Funeral Home, Cherokee. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6-7 p.m.

Ortha Dealton Ream was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Mountain View, Mo., to Fredrick Aaron and Altie Rosetta Glover Ream. He departed from this life on Monday, May 17, 2010, at Cherokee Manor, Cherokee.

He joined the United States Marines on March 28, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Okla., serving as a sharpshooter in the Ryuku Islands. He was honorably discharged April 10, 1946, in San Diego, Calif.

He was united in marriage to Raye Hale in 1940. To this union was born four daughters. He was then married to Nora Harrison. She preceded him in death in 1996.

He loved working in his garage repairing bicycles for everyone. In his eyes OU was the #1 Team. He could be seen at his favorite hang out, Ms. Dottie's Café, watering the plants. In 2008, he moved to Cherokee Manor, where he never met a stranger.

Ortha will be missed by his four daughters, Kay Wright and her husband Morris, Deborah Hoggard and her husband George, Becky Gaisford and her husband Darryl and Ronda Lynden; his grandchildren, Stacy, Portland, Melissa, Ryan, Aaron Robin, Jeremy, Lynnsey and Delton; his great-grandchildren Kody, Keaton, Carsyn and Cooper; his great-great-grandchildren, Bailey and Madasyn; one sister, Darlene Davidson; his nephew, Gwyn Jones; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, six brothers and six sisters.

Memorials can be made in Ortha's name to Alfalfa County EMT's with Goodwin Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
