Peggy Eileen Hawkins Patton was born April 5, 1944, the daughter of Bill and Helen (Thompson) Hawkins, in Ardmore and slipped into the bounds of glory on Monday, April 25, 2016 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
The Hawkins family moved to Pond Creek where Peggy spent her childhood, graduating there with the class of 1962. She attended Northwestern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma State Universities. Following college, she worked in Wichita then moved to Cherokee where she met and married her lifetime love, John Patton. They were married January 24, 1970, making Cherokee their home for a happy 46 years until her death. They were blessed with two daughters, Kadie and Michelle. They were members of the First Christian Church of Cherokee.
Peggy worked several years at the Alfalfa County Courthouse and retired from the Alfalfa County Assessor’s Office. She was an avid supporter of Cherokee and a volunteer at Cherokee Schools. She was a huge supporter of Cherokee sports and rarely missed a track meet or ball game of both her daughters and then grandchildren as long as her health allowed. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting and needlework. She was known for giving many handmade baby blankets and sharing her work. Peggy was full of life and laughter with a huge generous heart, always helping out her friends. Most of all, she was the" best Mema ever" to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, John of Cherokee; daughters, Kadie Lancaster and husband, Darrin of Cherokee and Michelle and husband, J Paul Williams of Burbank; four grandchildren, Matt and Beth Lancaster and Bodey and TJ Williams; her brother, Bill Hawkins and wife, Kathy of Bentonville, Arkansas and many, many friends.
The celebration of Peggy's life will be Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 2:00 at the First Christian Church in Cherokee with Rev. Tom Stanley and Rev. Tom Cooksey officiating. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc of Cherokee. Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the Comfort Care Unit of OU Medical Center or St. Jude's Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
