Cherokee – Funeral services for Clay McBroom, 71, who died Sunday morning in an Ada hospital, will be at 2 PM Wednesday in the Grapes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Spillman officiating.
Burial will be in the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Corinthian Lodge No. 307.
The body will lie in state in the funeral home until service time and the casket will remain closed afterward.
McBroom was born April 27, 1908, near Dorton, Tennessee, and moved to Oklahoma with his parents in 1909, the family settling near Ada. He moved to Cherokee from Oklahoma City in 1974.
After his marriage to Lola Adams September 5, 1936, they farmed northeast of Cherokee until moving into Cherokee in 1955. His wife died March 13, 1976.
McBroom was a member of the First Christian Church and the Corinthian Lodge No. 309.
Survivors include his stepmother, Mrs. Meta McBroom of Cherokee; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Mello and Mrs. Ray (Margaret) Coffman, both of Oklahoma City; a brother, Haskell McBroom of Cherokee; a half brother, Kenneth McBroom, Wichita, Kansas; two half sisters, Mrs. George (Wava Jean) Andrews, Portland, Texas, and Mrs. Chester (Betty Lou) Long, Wellington, Texas.
McBroom's family has suggested that those who wish may make contributions to the Alfalfa County Hospital in lieu of other remembrances.
