Helen DeVona (Alexander) Langston was born on December 20, 1913 to Vern and Bernice (Bell) Alexander and lived a mile north of Helena and passed from this life on November 4, 2004 in Woodward. Helen attended the first grade at Carmille School that later became a a home for orphans. From the second through the seventh grade she attended the Enterprise School 2 miles North of Helena. She then attended Helena High School. After her schooling, Helen began doing housework and laundry for ladies and staying with elderly people helping them with housework and laundry. She also did the Army men's laundry at the air base north of Jet. In 1936 Helen met Ernest Langston of Alabama and on June 19, 1935 they were married at the United Methodist Church in Lahoma. To this union three sons were born; Gary Vernon, Marvin Lynn, and Gene LeRoy who only lived a few hours. They bought property in the northwest part of Helena and made their home there. Ernest preceded her in death in October 1971. Ernest was serving as city clerk and Helen finished out his term after his death. Helen continued as city clerk for a period of time until her retirement. After her retirement Helen began babysitting several children in Helena and did so until the late 1980s. On March 17, 2001 she moved into the Grace Living Center in Woodward. It was hard for her to leave her home and her friends, but she wanted to be closer to her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Helena. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center where she loved to quilt.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Langston and wife, Rosanna of Woodward and Marvin Langston and wife, Brenda Sue of Perryton, Texas; six grandchildren, Brenda Ann Brown and husband, Brad of Blair, Karen Shifflett and husband, Kent of Woodward, Brian Langston and wife, Rachel of Woodward, Glenna Stephens and husband, Gerry of Balko, Stacy Langston of Perryton, Texas and Kathy Langston of Balko; 11 great-grandchildren, Renée and Shannon Brown, Stephanie and Jennifer Shifflett, Brandon, Dillon and Cameron Langston, Kolby and Kelsey Stephens, Kallie and Anthony McCurley.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; and infant son, Gene LeRoy and her parents.
