ENID — Frances Coppock Horton, 87, of Bartlesville, Okla., passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010, at her home after an extended illness.
A memorial service for Mrs. Horton will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, in Sneed Chapel at First United Methodist Church, (located at 5th and Johnstone), Bartlesville, with Dr. Kevin Tully officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Cherokee Cemetery, Cherokee, Okla. Funeral service and interment are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory, Bartlesville.
A memorial fund has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the Frances Coppock Horton Memorial Fund, c/o Cottey College, 1000 West Austin, Nevada, MO 74772.
Mrs. Horton was born Oct. 22, 1922, on the family farm in Cherokee, Okla., to Murray L. and Mary Blue Coppock.
After graduation from Cherokee High School, she attended Cottey College and graduated from Oklahoma State University. After teaching music in Jet, Okla., Mrs. Horton joined the American Red Cross and was stationed in Okinawa during World War II.
Frances and Bob Horton were married Sept. 5, 1948, in Cherokee. They made their home in Bartlesville, Okla., Muskogee, Okla., Greenville, S.C., Raleigh, N.C., and back to Bartlesville, while Bob worked for Phillips Petroleum Co.
In addition to raising three children, Frances was involved in her support of P.E.O., American Red Cross, Cottey College, Kappa Alpha Theta, her church and many other organizations. Mrs. Horton experienced many hours of delight in playing the piano and playing bridge. Her family and friends will miss her elegance, gracefulness and kind spirit.
Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Horton, on Nov. 27, 2005, and also one brother, M.L. Coppock Jr.
Mrs. Horton leaves a loving family including daughter, Deborah Bell and husband Richard of College Grove, Tenn.; son, Rob Horton and wife Catherine of Stillwater, Okla.; daughter, Katherine Horton of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Donald Coppock and wife Shirley of Cherokee, Okla.; granddaughter, Sarah Fritter and husband Justin; granddaughter, Megan Horton; granddaughter, Julia Bell; great-grandson, Hayden Fritter; niece, Mary Blue Ster and husband John; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Reznicek; and many cousins.

The funeral for Robert "Bob" Holmes Horton, 83, of Bartlesville, OK., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Sneed Chapel at First United Methodist Church, Bartlesville. The Rev. Paul Bowles will officiate. A graveside service is 3:30 p.m. in Cherokee Cemetery, Cherokee, OK. The Rev. John Haven will officate. Arrangements are by Stumpff Funeral Home and Crematory, Bartlesville, OK.
He was born May 28, 1922, in Ryan, OK. to Clair B. and Glymuth Sparkman Horton and died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at his home.
He spent most of his childhood in Cleveland, Okla., graduating from Cleveland High School and receiving a degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1951.
During World War II, he served as a war correspondent for the Army Air Corps. He served in the European Theater and received the American Defense Service Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the EAME Service Ribbon with one Silver Star and one Bronze Star.
He married Frances Ellen Coppock Sept. 5, 1948, in Cherokee. He retired after 35 years from Phillips Petroleum Co. as assistant manager of marketing. He was a member of the Hole-in-One Club at Hillcrest Country Club, Masonic Lodge of Muskogee, and was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels.
Surviving are his wife, Frances, of the home in Bartlesville, OK.; two daughters, Deborah Ellen Bell of College Grove, Tenn., and Katherine Lynn Horton of Skiatook, OK.; one son, Robert Holmes Horton Jr. of Stillwater, OK.; one sister, Betty Lou Reznick of Oklahoma City, OK.; and three grandchildren.
