ENID - Lenna Geraldine Hays left this life on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the age of 94.
She was born Sept. 18, 1915, to Frank and Ethel Leonard Mason and was a lifelong resident of the Cherokee area.
She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1933 and married Earl Hays of Byron, Okla., on Sept. 30, 1933. To this union was born a daughter, Janice, and a son, Gary.
Geraldine was a longtime member of First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; one son, Gary; a grandson, Jason Hays; and parents.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice Haunschild and husband Charles of Edmond; daughter-in-law, Judi Hays of Cherokee; a sister, Francis Metcalf of Enid; grandchildren, David Charles Haunschild of Oklahoma City, Christopher Reed Haunschild and wife Jennifer of Cupertino, Calif., Anne Elizabeth Evans and husband Barry of Austin, Texas, Crystal Luttrell and husband Tony of Cherokee; as well as nieces and nephews. Great-grandchildren include Nathan Ross Evans, Elizabeth Mason Evans, Reed Charles Evans and Charles Raymond Haunschild.
Our family and the community have lost one of its most gentle, kind and wise members, who truly exemplified Christ's second great commandment: to love our neighbor as ourselves. She showed us in a most gracious fashion how to live, as well as how to die.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at First Christian Church, Cherokee, with Dr. Ron Hansen officiating. Intern-ment will follow in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Goodwin Funeral Home, Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. The casket will be closed at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made through the funeral home to First Christian Church, Cherokee, or the charity of donor's choice.
