Cherokee Municipal Cemetery


LYDIA R. GEIS
The funeral for Lydia Geis, 95, of Cherokee, OK., will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at Cherokee First Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Cooksey will officiate. Burial will be in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Goodwin Funeral Home, Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 6:30 to 7:30, at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 6, 1910 in Lehigh, KS., to Jacob and Tina Schroder Unruh and died Fri. Sept. 2, 2005 at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
She lived her early years in Lehigh, moving to Buhler, KS. where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, KS. before moving to Alva, OK. where she worked for Kent W. Johnson Insurance Agency.
She married Walter Geis Sept. 3, 1933 in Buhler, KS. They moved to Cherokee, OK. where they owned and operated Geis Insurance Agency for 31 years. He died July 31, 1977.
She moved to Golden Oaks Retirement Village, Enid, OK., in March 2001. She was a member of Cherokee First Baptist Church, serving in the choir and other church organizations and Cherokee Business and Professional Women's Club and delivered for Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Cisna of Springfield, IL., and Patricia Ritchie of Las Vegas, Nevada; one sister, Virginia Pauls of Buhler, KS.; a brother, LaVurne Unruh, Valley Center, KS.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Walter, she was preceded in death by a brother and one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Cherokee First Baptist Church or Baptist Hurricane Fund.
