Cherokee Municipal Cemetery


The funeral for Mary Catherine DeArmond, 96, was at 2 PM Saturday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Gary Hornish officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery directed by Fisher Funeral Home. She died September 30, 1992, at Alva Share Medical Center.

She was born July 2, 1896, in Jet to King Washington and Nancy Elwood Bullard and graduated from high school in 1915 in Argonia, Kansas. She attended normal or summer school in Wellington, Kansas. On August 24, 1918, she married Arthur J DeArmond in Argonia. They moved to the Jet community. They moved to Cherokee in 1945. He died April 10, 1962.

She was a homemaker and school teacher and was the only person to hold two teacher's certificates in two states. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Cherokee, CWF and WCTU for 24 years, and charter member of Alfalfa County Historical Society and Senior Citizens in Cherokee.
