The memorial service for Jim “Maverick” Davis, 72 year-old Enid resident will be at 2:00PM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Cherokee, Oklahoma. Pastor Ed Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Cherokee Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Jim was born on April 9, 1943 in Passaic, New Jersey to Robert and Ida(Van Deventier) Davis and went to be with his Heavenly Father Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Oklahoma City with family at his side. He attended Cherokee Schools, where he picked up the name “Maverick” given to him by his freshman classmates. He graduated with the class of 1962. While at Cherokee he played football, basketball, and ran track. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1963, being stationed in France. In 1967, after his discharge, he returned to Cherokee and became a correctional officer at Helena and Alva for 21 and a half years.

He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Cherokee. He loved sports and continued to play well into his middle-age. He also loved to hunt, fish, bowl, and play softball and was a true O.U. Fan. Jim loved life, and making people laugh.

He is survived by wife, Linda Olson, stepsons, Rudy, Charlie and wife Paige Olson, step-daughter Gay Nell Goodrich, sister Barbara Daniels and niece Kelly Daniels. two brothers, Jack Davis and Lee Roy (Erin) Goeken and niece Emma, also a nephew Kaeden, a s well as a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-daughter Shelly Kletke, and two infant brothers Bobby and Rickey. Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to the Cherokee High School Football Program.
