FRANKLIN CUNNINGHAM
The funeral for Franklin D. "Frankie" Cunningham, 71, of Cherokee, OK. will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel, Cherokee. The Rev. Robert Fullerton will officiate. Burial will be in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born July 11, 1934, at Preston, Kan., to Frank Wayne and Emmie May Taylor Cunningham and died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Share Hospital, Alva, OK.
He attended school in Waynoka, OK. He was a jockey and started riding race horses at an early age. He rode at several tracks including Ponca City,OK., Liberal, Kan., Hot Springs, Ark., and Enid, OK.
He married Shirley Gibson May 9, 1956, in Woodward, OK. They made their home in May, OK., then moved to Cherokee, OK. in 1959.
He worked for the state highway department for 16 years. He later worked for Rick Caruthers Construction Co. and Alfalfa County.
He attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley of the home; four sons, Rex of Avard,OK., Roger of Alva,OK., Richard of Cherokee, OK., and Robert of Hopeton, OK.; three daughters, Regena Hom-mertzheim of Attica, Kan., Rhonda Fullerton of Enid, OK., and Rita Supernaw of Clinton, Mo.; two brothers, Ivan of Woodward, OK., and Allen of Carmen, OK.; three sisters, Dorene Bowker of Beaver,OK., and Betty Durkee and Maxine Cell both of Waynoka, OK.; 30 granchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, and three sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Watch Tower Society.

Goodwin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He died Dec. 3, 2005 at Share Hospital, Alva, OK.

His last race was April 20, 1956, in Enid, OK., which he won.
He married Shirley Gibson, May 9, 1956, in Woodward, OK. They lived in May, OK., then moved to Cherokee, OK. in 1959. He worked for the Oklahoma State Highway Department for 16 years. Later, he worked for Rick Caruthers Construction Company and Alfalfa County. He took early retirement because of failing health.
He attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife of the home; four sons, Rex of Avard, OK., Roger of Alva, OK., Richard of Cherokee, OK., and Robert of Hopeton, OK.; three daughters, Regena Hommertzheim of Attica, KS., Rhonda Fullerton of Enid, OK., and Rita Supernaw of Clinton, MO.; two brothers, Ivan of Woodward, OK., and Allen of Carmen, OK.; three sisters, Dorene Bowker of Beaver, OK., and Betty Durkee and Maxine Cell, both of Waynoka, OK.; 30 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

July 27, 1934 - March 16, 2020

The funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Shirley Cunningham, 85, of Enid will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday March 19, 2020, at the Alfafa County Fairgrounds with Arnulfo Mendoza officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Shirley was born July 27, 1934, to Irvin Richard and Voyed Parmenter Gibson in Dalhart, Texas, and passed from this life on March 16, 2020, in Enid, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family.

She was raised and educated in Seiling, Oklahoma, where she obtained her GED. On May 9, 1956, she married Franklin D. Cunningham in Woodward, Oklahoma. She lived her life for every child. She was a caretaker for everyone she ever met. Everyone called her Mom. She would help take care of the elderly people in the neighborhood and lived her whole life trying to continually be of service for anyone she met. She was absolutely one of the best cooks in the world and was known for her bread and cinnamon rolls. All the neighborhood children would go home and tell their parents that they needed to learn to cook like Shirley. She was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in August of 1985 and has served faithfully for over 35 years.

She is survived by her four sons, Rex and Debbie of Avard, Roger and Melanie of Alva, Richard of Cherokee and Robert and Carlene of Cherokee; three daughters, Regena and David Hommertzheim (of Attica, Kansas), Rhonda And Robert Fullerton (of Enid), and Rita Supemaw (of Magazine, Arkansas); 25 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandchild, one great grandchild, and one great-great grandchild.

Memorials in her name may be made to St. Jude's with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
