Cherokee – Mrs. Edith Brown, 83, died Friday morning in a Cherokee hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Saturday in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Cooksey officiating. Interment will be in the Cherokee Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Grapes Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown was born east of Helena, June 9, 1898, the daughter of Josie Evelyn and Thomas Robert Couch. She attended Helena and Goltry schools and Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was married to Ray Brown at Alva on October 10, 1926. They made their home on a farm south of Cherokee.
Following the death of her husband on November 10, 1942, she moved into Cherokee where she was employed at the AAA office prior to being elected to court clerk. She served as Alfalfa court clerk for 21 years.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherokee. She was predeceased by her husband, parents and one brother, Boyd Couch.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
