The funeral for Melva Elizabeth Braley, 81, was at 2 PM Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev.'s Glenn Gerber and Mark Walters officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery, directed by Goodwin Funeral Home. She died October 10, 1993, at Enid Regional Hospital.
She was born July 31, 1912, in Galveston, Texas, to Arthur and Melva Goodwin Hadley. She attended three years of high school in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from Northwest Classen High School, Oklahoma City.
On June 14, 1958 she married Kenneth Braley in Cherokee. They operated the Farmers Exchange Bank, retiring in 1971, and continued to live in Cherokee. She was a member of First Baptist Church, past matron and district deputy of Order of Eastern Star, past guardian of Bethel 38, Job's Daughters, Central Point, Oregon, and past oracle of Royal Neighbors of America.
She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Melva Phillips and Linda Link of Cherokee, Belva Carter of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Evalyn Gertie of Enid; a stepdaughter, Grace Gannon of Cherokee; a brother, Arthur H. Hadley of Dayton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the charity of the donors choice.
