Gene Loyd Belcher died on Sunday evening Sept. 20, 2015. He was born May 18, 1937, in Perry, Okla., to Hank and Ruth Belcher.
He attended Lambert schools through graduation. He then went on to Northwestern State University to study education. He received his masters in education from the University of Oklahoma. For several years, he was the school principal at Lincoln Elementary School in Ponca City, before retiring to farm.
Gene is survived by one aunt, Leora Bennett of California. Gene leaves behind his companion of 23 years, Kay McCracken, many cousins and friends. He will be missed for his honesty, his sincerity and his loyalty. He was one of the good guys.
Memorials in Gene’s name may be made to the UMW fund at First United Methodist Church, 400 S. Grand Ave., Cherokee, OK 73728.
There will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Cherokee Cemetery. Following the service there will be a celebration of Gene’s life at Cherokee Station.
