April 27, 1923 - May 23, 2018

Graveside service for Jessie will be Friday, May 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. Viewing will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.

Jessie was born on April 27, 1923 in Timberlake to Arthur DeArmond and Mary Catherine Bullard DeArmond and passed from this life on May 23, 2018 in Cherokee. Jessie graduated from Amorita High School. She played basketball all four years of high school and took up tennis in her senior year, winning multiple medals. Jessie’s father wouldn’t let her leave for basketball games unless the coach or the superintendent picked her up, took her to the game and brought her home The superintendent bought Jessie her first tennis racket. Jessie moved from Timberlake to Waldron, Kansas, to Amorita, to Wichita then to Cherokee for the past 66 years. On July 10, 1958 Jessie married Leslie M. Ashlock in Anthony, Kansas. Jessie worked as an auto, farm and plumbing parts clerk at multiple businesses. Jessie attended the Cherokee Christian Church and was a member of Eastern Star and Cherokee Roundup Club.

Those who preceded her in death include her husband, Les Ashlock; parents, Art and Mary DeArmond; brothers, Delmar DeArmond and wife, Grace, Harry DeArmond and wife, Lauren, John DeArmond and wife, Vivian; sister, Millie Munsell and husband, Walter; a niece and spouse; great niece and nephews.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Whitely and husband, Gary Don of Cherokee; grandchild, Gary Dean Whitley of Cherokee; great grandchildren, Shyla Marie Frost and husband, Christopher, Ty Whitely, Haley Wade, Mae Nevels and Kaleb Nevels, all of Cherokee; great-great granddaughter, Carly Nicole Frost; several nieces, Waneta Kelley of Wichita, Kansas, Rhonda Daniels and husband, Dennis, Debbie Burkes, all of Coldwater, Kansas, Marie Coldren of Kentucky, Barbara Clem of California; nephews, Donnie DeArmond and wife, Carol of Texas, Art DeArmond and wife, Peanuts of California. Art was born on Jessie’s 20th birthday.

Memorials may be given to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation – Prostate Cancer Division through the funeral home.
