Funeral services for Florence Wise Nickel will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Carmen First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Bizzell and Dr. Greg Hook officiating. Interment will be in Carmen City Cemetery under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary LLC, Carmen.
Florence Behm Wise Nickel, daughter of the late Charley and Beulah (Beech-er) Behm, was born Dec. 29, 1912, on a farm near Carmen, Okla., and passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, in Alva, Okla., at the age of 96 years, 2 months and 4 days. Florence attended Bell-view Country School and graduated from Carmen High School. She then graduated from Northwestern State Teachers College in Alva and attended Phillips University in Enid, completing her education. Her teaching career began in 1932, retiring from Adams Grade School in Enid in 1977. After her retirement, she lived in Carmen. In 1984, she was united in marriage to Bennie Nickel. She touched and influenced many young lives throughout her teaching career. Her greatest joys were the many successes of her former students through letters, visits, and telephone calls.
Florence is survived by her husband, Bennie; her daughter, Mary Inez Hoffman and her husband Neal of Carmen; her grandson, Brian Hoffman and wife Martha of Bullard, Texas; two sisters, Audrey Presnall and Lois Kassik, both of Alva; and one niece, Nancy Presnall of Enid; and other relatives and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Carmen Methodist Church, Share Hospice, or Share Convale-scent Home activity fund.
