Carmen Cemetery


January 14, 1943 - July 9, 2012

Funeral service for Mary Lou McElhatten, 69-year-old Carmen resident, will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at Carmen United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Bizzell will officiate. Burial will follow in Carmen City Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. There will be visitation with family 6-9 p.m. today at Henninger-Hinson Chapel.

Mary Lou was born Jan. 14, 1943, in Erie, Penn., to William G. and Elizabeth J. (Van Geem) Kindle and died Monday, July 9, 2012, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. On Dec. 15, 1978, she married Richard McElhatten in Greene Township, Penn., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. On Dec. 15, 1978, she married Richard McElhatten in Greene Township, Penn., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. The couple re-located to Enid in 1981. Both began careers with the Department of Corrections. While working for the Department of Corrections she obtained her degree from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany. She worked with the Department of Corrections for over 27 years, retiring as Deputy Warden at Bill Johnson Correctional Center in Alva. She was an active member of Carmen United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Richard of the home; four children, Lori Runser of Enid, Lisa Vallimont and husband Paul of Greene Township, Penn., Larry Daugherty and wife Diane of Enid, and Jennifer Romano and husband Richard of West Leechburg, Penn.; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Harger and husband Cason, and Thaddeus Runser, all of Enid, Kristine, Karrine and Kelsey Vallimont, all of Erie, Penn., Nicholas Alcorn and wife Shasta of Ft. Supply, Okla., and Alex and Nick Mann of Leechburg, Penn.; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Lynne Hibbs and husband Ed of Ringwood, Okla.; two brothers, James Kindle and wife Kathy of Fairview, Penn., and Donald Kindle and wife Sandra of Erie, Penn.; and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and five brothers, William, Richard, Charles, Thomas and Kenneth Kindle.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Carmen United Methodist Church.
